🚨 Another school antisemitic vandalism incident

Plymouth Whitemarsh High School

Plymouth Whitemarsh High officials said a swastika and graffiti of racial epithets were found in a bathroom at the school last week. A student spotted the vandalism and alerted a teacher; officials said "steps were taken to immediately remove the message."

"This incident will not shake our commitment to promoting a culture of belonging in our schools, and we are grateful for the community’s support of our efforts," school officials said in a statement. "Hate has no home here in Colonial School District."

It is the second instance of antisemitic and racist vandalism at a Montgomery County school in recent weeks following an incident at Upper Moreland Elementary School.

Also: An unspecified threat of violence against Wissahickon High forced the school to operate virtually last Wednesday. Officials said the home learning day was out of an abundance of caution and there was no evidence suggesting the threat was credible.

👷‍♂️ Luxury condo development proposed in Ambler

Ambler Planning Commission

A potential community of "stacked townhouses" in Ambler was recently pitched to the borough's planning committee.

Fox Rothschild, a development firm, recently proposed building 16 high-end condominiums and adding 46 parking spaces on a South Chestnut Street lot. The developer has not yet filed a formal application and would need zoning approval, as the property is currently for commercial use. Each two-floor unit would have three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, plus a driveway and one-car garage. The developer said the target market would be first-time home buyers, young couples and empty nesters; the community would be a half-mile from Ambler's SEPTA station. There would be a HOA servicing the development.

The property holds a warehouse used as a baseball training facility. The developer's plan calls for a partial demolition of the structure. There are also concerns about preserving nearby trees and potential affordability.

⚖️ Trial set for fatal Whitemarsh pedestrian crash

Montgomery County District Attorney

A Flourtown man will stand trial over allegations he was driving recklessly and speeding when his car fatally struck a Norristown man performing landscaping duties last fall.

Shakim Elias Mendez, 18, is charged with homicide by vehicle and other related counts in connection with the Nov. 8, 2024 incident. He was arrested several weeks later. The Montgomery County District Attorney alleges he was driving an SUV at high speed when he hit Artemio De La Rosa Martinez, 35. The impact was so severe that Martinez was thrown 168 feet with one of his shoes becoming lodged in a tree 36 feet above the ground.

Mendez then allegedly abandoned his car and fled the scene on foot. Cops said he was going upward of 70 MPH in a 25 MPH zone and driving with an obstructed view based on the positioning of the driver's seat.

924 Sturgis Ln in Lower Gwynedd, PA listed by Nicole Miller-Desantis: Nestled in one of Gwynedd Valley's most sought-after neighborhoods, this charming 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath Cape Cod offers nearly 3,800 square feet of thoughtfully designed living space -- far exceeding the size of a traditional Cape.

While it boasts the classic central fireplace, its expansive layout and modern updates make it a standout. Set on a picturesque 1.4-acre lot, the property features both a spacious side yard and a fenced-in rear yard--perfect for outdoor enjoyment. Its coveted Lower Gwynedd location offers direct access to some of the area's best walking trails and a safe, walkable route for students attending Wissahickon Middle and High Schools--no waiting for the bus or relying on a ride from Mom and Dad!

This convenience is a game-changer for busy families juggling after-school activities and sports. Step inside to a welcoming foyer with wide entryways and recessed stairs. To the right, a stylish home office with custom built-ins sits next to a sunken living room featuring a cozy wood-burning fireplace and pocket doors for added privacy. Across the foyer, the stunning formal dining room offers generous proportions, perfect for hosting holiday gatherings. The refreshed kitchen is both functional and inviting, featuring granite countertops, a center island, and ample space for a breakfast table.

Love natural light? The adjacent sunroom is an ideal space for casual dining and offers access to a large rear deck, where you can enjoy al fresco meals while taking in the sights and sounds of nature. At the heart of the home (and my personal favorite room) is the spectacular family room, where soaring ceilings and a dramatic floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace create an inviting, warm ambiance. Upstairs, the spacious owner's suite is a private retreat, featuring a sitting area, a walk-in closet, and a well-appointed ensuite bath with a soaking tub, dual vanity, and stall shower. The additional bedrooms are generously sized, with beautiful hardwood floors, while front-facing dormer windows add extra charm.

A hall bath with a tub-shower completes this level. The unfinished basement offers endless possibilities--whether you envision a home gym, playroom, or additional storage. A large cedar closet keeps off-season wardrobes pristine, and the exterior egress provides easy backyard access. Located in the highly ranked Wissahickon School District, this home is just moments from scenic walking trails, parks, fantastic local dining, shopping, and regional rail for an easy commute.

🐶 Rescue of the Week

James Short | Wiss Now

Meet Jovie, a six-year-old bulldog being fostered through Home At Last Dog Rescue.

Jovie was saved from a puppy mill in Lancaster. She is affectionate and cheerful and has a silly, fun-loving personality. Jovie is crate-trained and almost completely house-trained; she gets along with other dogs and is great with kids. She would do well with most families, but a house without a lot of staircases would be preferable.

If you are interested in adopting Jovie or would like more information, you can reach out to Home At Last Dog Rescue at [email protected] or visit the group's website.
